Trash Pickup Details

All Forest Park Estates residents are contracted to use KC Disposal: this cost is rolled into your annual dues.
The HOA has negotiated an exclusive agreement with KC Disposal for trash services for all residents at approximately half the cost of the prices charged to individuals, plus additional valuable services not available to non-group customers.

Trash Pick-up
The trash day for all Forest Park Estates residents is Thursday each week. All items should be placed at the curb no later than 6 a.m.

Every residence has two (blue colored, KC Disposal branded) 65 gallon wheeled trash cans, one for household trash / solid waste (black lid) and one for recycled materials (green lid).

Household trash should be bagged and fit inside the cart with the lid closed.

Recycling is unlimited, but please do not overload your recycling bin, as the lid does need to be closed.  All boxes inside and outside your bin will need to be broken down flat. Additional boxes outside the bin should be broken down and bundled (no larger than 3 foot by 4 foot sections). If you have any loose recycling that will not fit inside of the recycling cart, use either a small container or box to be placed next to the cart. More guidelines on recycling for viewing and download are available here.

KC Disposal holidays are:

  • New Years Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day
Holidays that fall on Monday through Friday will affect the pick-up day, with pick-ups delayed one day.

Other service disruptions (like for inclement weather) will be publicized on the KC Disposal website and Facebook page, and via the FPE Facebook page and email list (if the HOA is made aware of them).

Pick-up of extra household trash, yard waste, and bulk items can be arranged by contacting KC Disposal directly, for an additional charge, which will be billed to homeowner directly by KC Disposal, not the HOA.

KC Disposal provide repairs to all containers when needed. If a cart is lost or stolen, the resident will be charged a $60 (refundable) deposit for a new trash and / or recycling containers.

For any and all issues with trash collection (e.g., missed collection, broken cart, additional items, etc.), please call KC Disposal directly at 816-388-9739 or email them at kcdisposal@gmail.com. For persistent issues or concerns, please make the HOA Board aware.

Yard Waste
Every residence is also entitled to put out up to 10 bags of yard waste (e.g., grass clippings, sticks and small tree limbs, shrubbery trimmings, waste from flower and vegetable gardens, etc.) each week, as long as proper yard waste bags are used and each bag does not weigh more than 35 pounds.

Yard waste is picked up year-round. However, January 1st to April 1st yard waste pick-ups may need be scheduled (by contacting KC Disposal at 816-388-9739 or email at kcdisposal@gmail.com).

Large Item Pickup
The HOA has negotiated that every homeowner can place ONE bulky item out with their regular trash on the LAST trash pickup day of each month.

  • Only ONE bulky item per month is allowed for this pickup.
  • Bulky items will only be picked up on the LAST trash pickup day of each month.
  • Your bulky item must be allowable per the Acceptable Bulk Items list that KC Disposal has provided (view and download here).
  • Items that do not qualify per this list will not be removed.
Because of this agreement, Forest Park Estates does NOT PARTICIPATE in the traditional Shawnee "Tidy Town" annual bulky-item pickup event: on Shawnee Tidy Town days, official pick-up vehicles do not visit Forest Park Estates.

However, Forest Park Estates homeowners can still take advantage of the annual Shawnee Tidy Town voucher sent directly to homeowners (included in the Shawnee "All Things Hometown Newsletter", which is mailed out in February each year). The voucher is good for one carload, truckload, or U-haul (up to five cubic yards).

Show this voucher, along with proof of residency, for one free drop-off at the Johnson County Landfill on Holiday Drive.

Proper Trash Bin Placement
On Trash Day, KC Disposal asks that you place your bins on your driveway and not the grass.

The bins need to be at least 4 feet apart from one another and at least 12 feet away from any parked vehicles that may be in front of your residence.

If you choose to place your bins on your grass and there is damage, they are not liable for any damage.

KC Disposal trucks are equipped with an automated arm, so it is very important that their drivers have enough clearance so that they can service your bins: if there is anything blocking your bins, they will not be able to service them.

Outside Trash Day, as per Forest Park Estates HOA regulations, your trash bins should be stored within your residence (i.e., garage) and not outside (i.e., the front or side of your house).
